Little school „Fire is no joke“ in Koprivnica schools
On Friday March 31, 2017, the Croatian Agrometeorological Society organized the Little School "Fire is no joke" at the Elementary School "Đuro Ester" and seminar “The impact of climate change on agricultural production and potential wildfire risk” at High School in Koprivnica. The lectures were held by Dr Višnja Vučetić, president of the HAgMD.
Pupils of the second classes of Elementary School surprised us by their knowledge of wildfires. After about forty pupils watched an animated movie "Fire is no joke", they found out how much fire can cause damage to animals and forests. The children were very active and interested in the discussion. Animated films and discussions have the purpose of awakening preschool and school age children to potential danger of wildfire and catastrophic changes after a fire.
In the Koprivnica High School there was a seminar for students of the first and second classes. 56 pupils attended the project Agrometeorological Mosaic for Youth in which they watched the animated film "Fire is no joke". The conversation has pointed the problem of unintentional fire and conditions suitable for rapid spread of fire, but most of all, the changes in microclimate of an area that occur after fire. Conversation was also about fire impact on animals, and ultimately on humans. The students realized the importance of afforestation and how many years last a restoration of forests.
