Eighth and Ninth Annual Assembly of HAgMD

The Croatian Agrometeorological Society held the Eighth Annual Meeting by e-mail from December 12 to 16, 2016. 52 members out of 74 voted for the Work Plan and Financial Plan for 2017 and the plans were accepted.

We started the Ninth Annual Assembly for a minute of silence for our member of the Society, a longtime head of the Main Agrometeorological Station in Križevci and those in love with agrometeorology Mr. Zdravko Košćević, who left us on February 21, 2017.

 At the Assembly, the Work Report and the Financial Report for 2016 were considered and adopted. Within the Program of Agrometeorology in the service to the users, we held four agrometeorological seminars for students of the Faculty of Forestry and Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb and Matica hrvatska. We also attended the lecture at the Science Festival. But the main activity in 2016, within the project Agrometeorological mosaic for youth, was producing animated film "Fire is no joke" and organizing it's premiere on the Lokrum Island on September 28, 2016. The next day, we held the Little School on Forest Fire in five elementary and one branch schools in Dubrovnik. The film saw about 850 children. The screenings of the film were also held at the Medical School in Dubrovnik, at the opening of the 7th Symposium of the Croatian Firefighting Association, and at the Fantasy Convention in Rijeka. The financial support for these activities was obtained from the City of Dubrovnik, the City of Zagreb, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the Split-Dalmatia County, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, the Public Institution Reserve Lokrum and the Firefighting Association of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and the partner of project is the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas of Nature of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

We organized a one-day professional excursion for HAgMD members to Karlovac, with a visit to the Karlovac Main Meteorological Station. We visited the city with expert guidance, we visited the newly opened aquarium for freshwater fish Aquatika and after lunch we visited the Dubovac castle near Karlovac.

We will continue to hold agrometeorological seminars for students and continue with the Little School "Fire is no joke" throughout Croatia. The plan is to make a comic book "Fire is no joke" so that after the screening of the film we could give the children educational materials on forest fires.
