Dubrovnik, March 20 and 21, 2014
Working group WG2 COST Action ES 1106

A meeting of the Working Group WG2 COST Action EC 1106 was held in Dubrovnik from 20 to 21 March 2014. The meeting objective was the presentation of the results and preparation of the WG2 report. The working group WG2 is led by Prof. Josef Eitzinger, and the project runs from April 18, 2012 to April 17, 2016.

COST Actions are a flexible, fast, effective and efficient networking instrument for researchers, engineers and scholars to cooperate and coordinate nationally funded research activities. COST Actions allow European researchers to jointly develop their own ideas in any science and technology field. COST program, since its establishment in 1971, fills the gap between science, society and policy makers.

The name of COST Action ES 1106 project is Assessment of EUROpean AGRIculture WATer use and trade under climate change (EURO-AGRIWAT). The main focus is to provide an integrated methodology and database for the evaluation of the use and exchange of water for the needs of European agriculture in different spatial scales under current and future climatic conditions.

The meeting was attended by 14 participants from 9 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Serbia and Turkey. In addition to the exchange and presentation of results and preparation of WG2 report, two presentations were held. Dr. Maja Žuvela-Aloise (ZAMG, Austria) held presentation on Microclimatic simulations for defined critical areas in agriculture on the mid-Adriatic islands. Petra Jakovčić (DHMZ, Croatia) had a presentation on Soil temperature regime under climate change in Croatia.

After the formal part, a beautiful sunny spring afternoon was spent in exploring the fascinating Dubrovnik city walls and in visiting several museums. Also, the Dubrovnik Cable Car took participants to Srđ from which a beautiful view extends to the city of Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands. An admiration with the Dubrovnik history and cultural heritage could not be hidden from the faces of the participants.
