The 160th anniversary of the Hvar meteorological station
On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the meteorological station in Hvar, organized by the City Library of Hvar and the Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ), an exhibition was set up and a lecture was held on 1 February 2018. The exhibited materials were selected and prepared by Marko Vučetić dipl. ing. and dr. Višnjica Vučetić mostly from the archives of the DHMZ, and part of the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Science and the personal collection.
In addition to many interesting things, the greatest enthusiasm was caused by information that in 1884 the world famous climatologist Julius Hann published Climate of Hvar (Klima von Lesina) in the Zeitschrift der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Meteorologie. This is the first real analysis of the climate of a Croatian region or city!
The visit to the exhibition and the lecture was exceptional because all the visitors could not enter the hall, and a large number remained “in front of the door”. After the lecture, the Library has provided party and association lasted with meteorological topics. In October 2018 a meteorological gathering was announced for the occasion of this anniversary.
